Vestavia O-line dominates
Vestavio O-line dominatesThe Vestavia Rebels unveiled a devastating ground game in their 2013 season opener, literally running away with a convincing 34-14 win over rival Homewood Patriots.
Four different running backs rushed for at least 50 yards, as the Rebels piled up over 300 yards against the Patriots.
Carter Jacobs personally outscored Homewood, totaling 3 touchdowns and 57 yards rushing. Jordan Johnson scored a touchdown as well. Johnson, Daniel Gosdin, and Christian Palmer all joined Jacobs in rushing for over 50 yards. Palmer led all Rebel backs with 72 yards on the ground.
An ankle injury to Johnson early in the game forced Vestavia to share the running load among several backs, and the result was a runaway success.
With a dominant ground game, the Rebels only attempted 7 passes and relied on their potent running attack to run up an impressive 34 points on a traditionally strong Homewood defense.
The Vestavia defense also began the 2013 season with a dominant performance, forcing 3 pivotal turnovers and only allowing one score at the end of each half.
