The gym at Vestavia Hills High School looked a little different Saturday, as kids of all ages descended for breakfast and a chance to meet some of their favorite heroes and heroines.
Student volunteers dressed as a variety of superheroes and princesses, as well as other famous animated characters, and took photos, signed autographs and just visited with guests at the Princess & Superhero Breakfast.
The event was held to raise funds for the pediatric oncology department at Children's of Alabama, and the breakfast brought in over $5,000 for the cause.
"The turnout far exceeded our expectations, and we could not be happier," said VHHS student Maggie Mince. "We cannot thank the Vestavia community enough for jumping into this fundraiser with us and making it such a great event."
The event was part of a spring full of fundraisers for cancer research and care, including Children's and Relay for Life.
