The Vestavia Voice won six awards for its work at the 2015 Alabama Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. The annual contest celebrates the best in writing, photography, design and advertisements among newspapers across the state.
The awards were presented at the annual summer convention on June 20, at the Hilton Sandestin hotel in Florida. There were nearly 3,000 entries from 70 newspapers across Alabama. The Voice competed in Division E of the contest, the division for member newspapers with free circulation.
Among the awards were:
- 1st Place – Best Sports Single-Event Story
- 1st Place – Best News Feature Story Coverage
- 1st Place – Best Original/Creative Advertising Idea
- 2nd Place – Best Public Service
- 3rd Place – Best Sports News In-Depth Coverage
Starnes Publishing, the publishing company for the Vestavia Voice, took home 42 awards in total among its five newspapers.
