On the morning of Tuesday, June 30, a storm came through Vestavia Hills knocking down trees and causing homes to lose power in the Cahaba Heights area and throughout Birmingham.
Among the damage was a large tree knocked down at the intersection of White Oak Drive and Farrington Wood Drive in Cahaba Heights. It took down power lines, cable and landline phone service.
Dawn Simmons lives on White Oak Drive. She was inside her home on the morning of the storm.
"A major wind came through," said Simmons. "I heard a crack and looked outside and saw the tree in front of my house had fallen. It missed my house, my car, even my mailbox. I am very lucky."
Simmons said her tree is one of the oldest trees in the Cahaba Heights area. Photos of the area can be seen in the above slideshow.
