Road construction
An update on road construction that may affect your commute.
Nothing is more frustrating than an unexpected traffic jam. (Except maybe getting caught in traffic while every radio station is on commercial break.) Here’s an update on road construction that may affect your commute:
- Paving on Rocky Ridge Road is complete except for a 300-foot section in the Hoover portion near Lorna Road.
- Starting Wednesday, milling and repaving will take place on Columbiana Road from Gentilly Drive to Highway 31. Work then will move to Tyler Road, and then after that Overton Road. This will take place from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., and is expected to be completed in 50 working days.
- Alagasco will be replacing gas lines throughout Homewood.
- Continuing the project to connect I-59 and I-20, from Monday, July 25 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, July 30 at 1 p.m., workers will mill the top layer of asphalt, restripe and set barrier rail on I-65 northbound between I-59/20 and 16th Street, resulting in double left and right lane closures. Also, there will be double left and right lanes closures at interval times from Wednesday, July 27 starting at 8 p.m. until Friday, July 29 at 7 a.m. so that workers can restripe and ultimately reduce the lane widths on I-65 southbound between the 12th Court N Overpass and the 6th Avenue off ramp.
- The Alabama Department of Transportation will be performing bridge repairs Tuesday-Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day at the following locations:
- Tuesday, July 26: I-59 Southbound - bridge over Avenue I and 35th Street (Milepost 119.8). This will require the outside (right) lane to be closed where the work is being performed.
- Wednesday, July 27: I-59 Southbound - bridge over 41stt Avenue (Milepost 119.15). This will require the inside (left) lane to be closed where the work is being performed.
- Thursday, July 28: I-20 Westbound - bridge over Georgia Rd. (Milepost 131.1). This will require the inside (left) lane to be closed where the work is being performed.
