
Election Update
On Aug. 23, Vestavia voters will have the chance to elect their 2016-2020 city council members and mayor. Vestavia Voice will provide weekly recaps each week leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.
Here’s the latest:
- Candidate qualifying officially kicked off Tuesday, and will run until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19. Those intending to run for office are required turn in the necessary paper work to City Clerk Rebecca Leavings in order to officially qualify.
Candidates who have qualified so far:
Mayor:
- Alberto “Butch” Zaragoza – Incumbent
- Ashley C. Curry
City Council Place 1:
- John D. Henley–Incumbent
- Rusty Weaver
City Council Place 2:
- Kim Benos
- Kimberly Cook
City Council Place 3:
- Paul J. Head
City Council Place 4:
- George Pierce–Incumbent
- Bob Elliot
Steve Ammons has indicated he is running for reelection for Place 3, and local resident Robert de Buys has also said he is running for Place 3, but neither have officially qualified as of close of business Thursday.

- Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.
