As part of an ALDOT Transportation Alternatives Program, the Council discussed a project that would involve construction of a tunnel to connect pedestrian routes underneath Sicard Hollow Road.
During a regular April meeting, the Vestavia Hills City Council passed a resolution reappointing Jerry Dent to the Board of Education for a five year term beginning in June.
The City Council also approved a resolution authorizing City Manager Jeff Downes to apply for a grant as part of an ALDOT Transportation Alternatives Program. The project would involve construction of a tunnel to connect pedestrian routes underneath Sicard Hollow Road.
Downes said the maximum amount for the project would be $400,000 and the city would be required to match 20% of the funds. The tunnel would be for both pedestrians and cyclists.
"It can be very dangerous for both walkers and cyclists, so we are looking to change that," said Mayor Butch Zaragoza.
In other news, the council:
- Approved an ordinance granting conditional use approval for a 120 feet tall AT&T tower at 2602 Columbiana Road.
- Approved an ordinance rezoning the residential property at 1421 Round Hill Road for use by the City. Downes said the property will be used to construct 46 Library in the Forest parking spots and construction could begin by late summer or early fall.
- Approved a resolution authorizing Daniel Corporation as Master Developers of Patchwork Farms. Read more about Patchwork Farms development here.
