Road construction
Nothing is more frustrating than an unexpected traffic jam. (Except maybe getting caught in traffic while every radio station is on commercial break.) Here’s an update on road construction that may affect your commute:
- The milling and repaving project that was originally supposed to start with Columbiana Road will now start with Tyler Road. Motorists entering from side streets should wait and fall in line with the pilot car. After Tyler Road has been completed, work will then move to Columbiana Road, and after that to Overton Road. The work is expected to be completed in 50 working days.
Other Area Concerns:
- Motorists should expect delays over the next few weeks as workers repave a 300-foot strip of Lorna Road in Hoover, then install permanent striping. When that is complete, there will be a project closeout period where cleanup and any punchlist items will be addressed.
- Alagasco will be replacing gas lines throughout Homewood.
- Monday, August 1 thru Friday, August 5, Highway 75 northbound and southbound will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. approximately 3 miles north of Pinson near the intersection of Clay Palmerdale Road. The purpose of this closure is to install asphalt pavement near the new entrance to the Birmingham Northern Beltline. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area.
- The Alabama Department of Transportation will make guardrail repairs on I-65 northbound and southbound every night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 1 to Thursday, August 4. Segments of the I-65 inside (left) lane and the I-65 outside (right) lane will be closed at various locations, from the Chilton/Shelby County Line (Milepost 225.9) to the Shelby/Jefferson County Line (Milepost 248.6). All travel lanes will be reopened to traffic by 5 a.m. each morning.
