On Jan. 22, Vestavia Hills Police Department investigators arrested 26-year-old Derek Harbison of Irondale in connection to the armed robbery of the Shell Gas Station in Cahaba Heights that occurred on Jan. 5. The investigators obtained felony warrants for robbery in the first degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance through the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
Vestavia Hills Police Chief Dan Rary said the department received multiple tips from the community that led to Harbison's arrest.
"Our lead investigator said that without the benefit of social media, community support and the information he received from them, this case could have gone unsolved," Rary said. "We wish to send a huge thank you to everyone for their support."
Harbison has been transferred to the Jefferson County Jail pending a $60,000 bond.
