FOOTBALL
The Vestavia Hills football team narrowly missed an upset over Thompson, falling 21-20 on Friday night. This week, the Rebels host longtime rival Hoover.
VOLLEYBALL
Vestavia Hills’ volleyball team won six of nine matches last week to improve to 25-12 overall on the season. The Rebels began the week on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory over area foe Hewitt-Trussville (3-0) and knocked off another area opponent in Spain Park in four (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20).
Over the weekend, Vestavia Hills helped Homewood host part of the Margaret Blalock Tournament due to ongoing construction at Homewood High. For the tournament, the Rebels notched wins over Bob Jones, Grissom, Tuscaloosa County and Huntsville while losing to Hoover, Montgomery Academy and Jasper. Some notable stats from the week:
- Hannah Vines: 5 aces, 91 kills, 5 blocks, 64 digs
- Ainsley Schultz: 6 aces, 46 kills, 16 blocks, 22 digs, 149 assists
- Maggie Gann: 19 aces
- Elise Hoppenjans: 108 digs
This week, Vestavia Hills hosts John Carroll on Tuesday to wrap up regular season play.
CROSS-COUNTRY
On Saturday, the Vestavia Hills cross-country teams competed in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Rebels boys took home first place honors, while the girls finished second.
The boys had three top-10 finishers, with Ethan Strand (second, 15:17.43), Bryce Hutchinson (fourth, 15:37.31) and John Ingram (eighth, 15:58.85) posting strong finishes. Andrew Precise was 14th, followed by Jackson Campbell (27th), Benjamin Knighten (40th) and William Morris (62nd).
Crawford West (eighth, 19:24.42) and Katy Lambert (ninth, 19:30) were the top finishers for the girls. Christina Sorochinsky (21st), Sarah Comer (35th), Margaret Patton (359th), MaryGriffith Lytle (49th) and Eden Roberson (79th) also ran.
