Vestavia Hills saw its volleyball season come to an end on Thursday afternoon, falling to Huntsville 3-0 (26-28, 23-25, 13-25) in the Class 7A Super Regional in Huntsville.
The Rebels fought tooth and nail in the first two sets, and had Huntsville squarely on the ropes in both sets, even rallying from a 19-10 deficit in one of them.
Winning either of the first two sets would have made the match a much different story, but the Rebels were unable to avoid the letdown in the final set.
Vestavia defeated Tuscaloosa County on Monday in the Class 7A, Area 5 tournament to advance to the super regional round.
The Rebels will now be forced to bid adieu to eight seniors in Katie Larson, Avery Kampwerth, Emma Grace Harris, Manon Burris, Mejra Shea Merritt, Caroline Dutton, Jenna Hogan and Sophie Losole. Those eight laid the foundation for Mandy Burgess’ return to the Vestavia volleyball program after a three-year absence.
Hannah Vines, Anna Langley and Mary Quinn Carter will spearhead a largely new cast of players next fall.
