Walker Minor (34) takes off for a run against Hewitt-Trussville.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced the completion of reclassification for 2016-2018 on Wednesday.
Reclassification takes place every two years, and the last cycle produced the addition of Class 7A. There was some speculation that 7A may add on to the 32 teams already in place, but that number remained.
Vestavia Hills is largely unaffected in football, as they remain in Class 7A, Region 3. Spain Park, Hoover, Oak Mountain, Mountain Brook, Thompson, and Tuscaloosa County are also holdovers. The lone change is Huffman moving up to 7A and replacing Hewitt-Trussville, who moves to Region 4.
In all other sports, however, the Rebels are on the move. In what amounts to a swap with Oak Mountain, Vestavia moves to Area 5 with Hoover, Thompson, and Tuscaloosa County.
The changes will go into affect in the fall.
