BBQ the Bucs
VHHS students are selling BBQ the Bucs shirts for charity.
As the Rebels prepare to face the Hoover Bucs on the field on Oct. 16, VHHS's Student Government Association is preparing for its main fall fundraiser.
VHHS biology teacher and SGA sponsor Martha Manley said the annual BBQ the Bucs will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15. The event is free, but school clubs will be selling food and drinks. There will also be a cooking contest for the best chicken, steak and burgers, with school staff serving as judges.
From now until the Hoover game, SGA members will also be selling BBQ the Bucs T-shirts for $12.
“We would love for the whole community to buy one and participate,” Manley said.
The proceeds from BBQ the Bucs and the shirt sales will go to Children’s Harbor, a Birmingham organization that provides camping and retreats for children with long-term illnesses and their families. Manley said the SGA voted to support Children’s Harbor out of several local organizations.
Children’s Harbor will also receive proceeds from the powder puff football and faculty/student basketball games during homecoming week, and the school talent show in November.
Shirts can be bought from any SGA member and they will arrange delivery for the week of the Hoover game. For more information, contact Manley at manleyme@vestavia.k12.al.us.
