Senior center to host variety of activities in December

For seniors looking to celebrate the holidays, the New Merkel House will host a Christmas Celebration at 11 a.m. Dec. 21.

At the celebration, there will be a gift exchange, hors d’oeuvres, Christmas carols and a Christmas lunch, Director Melanie Perry said.

For the rest of the month, the New Merkel House will host its rundown of regular events, including daily lunch, Tai Chi, board games, bingo and visiting with students from nearby Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights.

There are no scheduled guest speakers for the month of December, according to the list of events sent by Perry.

Other December Events

► Monday-Friday: Fun, fellowship and lunch, served at 11:45 a.m.

► Tuesdays: Tai Chi at 12:30 p.m., along with table games.

► Wednesdays: “Getting to Know You Lunches.” Students from Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights join seniors for lunch.

► Wednesdays and Fridays: Bingo at 11 a.m.

► Thursdays: Tech Talk Thursdays.

► Dec. 11: Art with Tina Chaffin.

► Dec. 21: Christmas Celebration.

► Closed Dec. 24-Jan. 1.

Monthly nutritional education will continue throughout the winter season, and games will be played every day.
