Pure Fitness hosted its inaugural Reindeer Dash on Dec. 23, 2017, benefiting the organization On River Time.
Pure Fitness owner Erin Holtz is hoping for sunnier skies and bigger crowds for the second annual Reindeer Dash.
This year’s Reindeer Dash will be Dec. 22 at 8 a.m., offering runners and walkers a chance to fit in a healthy activity before indulging in large Christmas meals.
The inaugural run was 2 miles, but the 2018 event will feature a 1-mile fun run and a new 5K. As with last year, runners are encouraged to wear Christmas colors or even costumes such as Santa hats or reindeer antlers. Race participants in 2017 were given red “Rudolph” noses to wear, as well.
After the race, participants can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies, as well as pictures with Santa.
Due to rainy weather, around 70 people showed up to the first race. “We think we can double it,” Holtz said.
Holtz said her favorite part about hosting the Reindeer Dash is giving people a chance to participate in “a fun activity that’s health-conscious around the holidays, and spend time with family.”
The race benefits On River Time.
Registration costs $25 for the 5K, $15 for the fun run and $45 for families, and runners can register at runsignup.com/thereindeerdash2018. Kids under age 10 can participate for free.
