Mayor Zaragoza and the Council present officers at the meeting with the proclamation.
Mayor Butch Zaragoza and the Vestavia Hills City Council proclaimed Tuesday, Jan. 12 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at their Monday night meeting.
The proclamation, read by City Manager Jeff Downes, recognized the city’s law-enforcement officers for their hard work and commitment to serving and protecting the city and its residents.
“I can tell you, without any qualification, we have the best,” Downes said.
The proclamation comes after officers responded to an incident early Friday, Jan. 8 where residents reported individuals knocking on doors around 2 a.m. While pursuing the individuals, shots were fired at an officer, who was unhurt, and the situation ended with two arrests.
Chief Dan Rary said he was proud of the officers on duty Friday night, as well as the other officers who came to assist.
Mayor Pro-Tem Steve Ammons, who serves as liaison with the Public Safety department, said he and Councilor John Henley were also impressed by the training the officers exhibited.
“It was an outstanding job,” Rary said.
