Road construction
Nothing is more frustrating than an unexpected traffic jam. (Except maybe getting caught in traffic while every radio station is on commercial break.) Here’s an update on road construction that may affect your commute:
- Work to repave Rocky Ridge Road in Vestavia Hills will continue. Construction will begin 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday near Highway 280 and result in temporary lane closures. The repaving will take four to five weeks to complete.
- Alagasco will be replacing underground gas lines throughout Homewood.
- On Tuesday, June 14, starting at 9 a.m., the Alabama Department of Transportation will perform a bridge inspection on I-59 at Milepost 142.87. Consequently, the I-59 northbound outside (right) lane and shoulder will be closed in the area of the work. However, all travel lanes will be reopened by 3 p.m.
- On Wednesday, June 15 at 10 a.m., the left two lanes of I-22 eastbound from Brookside (Milepost 91) to Coalburg Road (Milepost 93) will be closed for traffic striping and pavement markings as the project to connect I-65 and I-22 continues. The two left lanes will remain closed until Monday, June 20, when I-22 reopens near Milepost 93. All traffic will have to exit at Coalburg Rd. from I-22 eastbound and a reduced speed limit of 45 mph will be implemented throughout the work zone. When completed, I-22 will serve as an interstate highway between Birmingham and Memphis, Tennessee.
