Guests enjoy Tacos for Trinity in 2019. The annual event benefits Trinity Counseling, located in Vestavia Hills.
The annual Tacos for Trinity event will return to an in-person format in 2021.
The event, slated for Oct. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. in downtown Birmingham, will bring together live music, food, speakers and a silent auction, benefiting Trinity Counseling, a nonprofit organization in Vestavia Hills that provides “affordable faith-based counseling, mental health services and support programs to those in need.”
The organization noted that in the past year, almost 800,000 Alabamians reported struggling with mental health issues due to worry and stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. Fifty-one percent noted their health needs went unmet due to cost factors.
“Awareness of, access to, and affordability of community mental health resources are three major factors in determining whether a person is able to get the support they need during times of increased stress,” the organization said in a news release about the event.
Trinity provided more than 8,000 counseling sessions and responded to more than 500 new requests for counseling appointments in 2020, the organization said in the release.
The annual fundraiser helps provide a large portion of Trinity’s budget, allowing the group to provide mental health services. The ninth iteration of the event will be held at The Battery above Birmingham District Brewing.
Trinity also provides special support services to people such as pastors, mental health counselors, social workers, school counselors, military, police and first responders.
