Election Update
On Aug. 23, Vestavia Hills voters will have the chance to elect their 2016-2020 city council members and mayor. The Vestavia Voice will provide weekly recaps each week leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.
Here's the latest:
- Four people have announced their council candidacy so far: Kimberly Cook, Robert De Buys, Bob Elliot and Kim Benos.
- With Mayor Alberto "Butch" Zaragoza running for re-election, City Clerk Rebecca Leavings was named election manager.
- Pick up the July issue of the Vestavia Voice for information about which incumbents are running again. This issue also contains information on polling places, how to register to vote and how to register as a candidate.
- Official qualifying for mayoral and council candidates begins July 5 and lasts until July 19. See the city clerk's office for qualifying forms.
- Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.
- A runoff election, should it be required, will be held Oct. 4. Elected officials will take office Nov. 7.
