Road construction
Nothing is more frustrating than an unexpected traffic jam. (Except maybe getting caught in traffic while every radio station is on commercial break.) Here’s an update on road construction that may affect your commute:
- Work to repave Rocky Ridge Road in Vestavia Hills will continue. Construction will begin 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday and result in temporary lane closures. The repaving will take four to five weeks to complete.
- Starting on Tuesday, July 5, at 8 p.m., segments of the I-65 inside (left) lane and the I-65 outside (right) lane will be closed at various locations, from the Shelby/Chilton County Line (Milepost 231.7) to the Shelby/Jefferson County Line (Milepost 237.12) as the Alabama Department of Transportation performs bridge repairs. All lanes will be reopened no later than 5 a.m. and the repairs should take approximately three nights.
- As the Alabama Department of Transportation continues work to connect I-50 and I-20, the inside lane of the 6th Avenue North Entrance Ramp onto I-65 Northbound will be shut down to reduce the ramp to one lane for an extended period of time. A release will be sent to notify when other changes are made. While worker do milling and stripping work, On Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. to Thursday, July 7, at 7 a.m. each day, the two outside lanes of I-59/20 northbound will shut down between Arkadelphia Road and I-65. On Thursday, July 7 from 7 p.m. til Saturday, July 9 at 7 a.m. each day, the two inside lanes of I-59/20 northbound will shut down between Arkadelphia Road and I-65.
