Members of the Vestavia Hills City Council and Vestavia Hills Police Department will hold a moment of silence and time of prayer today in the wake of the shooting of police officers in Dallas, Texas, Thursday evening.
The gathering will take place at noon on the front lawn of City Hall.
City Council Member and Mayor Pro-Tem Steve Ammons said the mayor and police chief in Dallas called for a moment of silence at noon, and that Vestavia wanted to honor that moment and offer the community a chance to gather in prayer.
"We're just following through and giving the community an opportunity to come out and participate," Ammons said.
He said Bruce Stallings, executive pastor at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, will lead the prayer and moment of silence, and that Captain Kevin York will provide the introduction.
Ammons also said he encourages other area pastors to attend to provide small-group prayer times for those in attendance who wish to gather.
City Hall is located at 1032 Montgomery Highway.
