Improvements shown in this rendering of Cahaba Heights Road and Dolly Ridge Road include the addition of sidewalks and crosswalks, intersection improvements, frontage landscaping, gateway signs and banners, ornamental lighting around intersections and the reuse of a vacant business on the southeast corner.
During a November City Council meeting, City Manager Jeff Downes announced that on Tuesday, Dec. 2 there will be a town hall meeting to review development opportunities in Cahaba Heights.
The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church. Development options for the commercial district surrounding Pump House Road, Cahaba Heights Road and Dolly Ridge Road will be the focus of the agenda.
"Anyone who wants to attend with their ideas on future development is welcome, " said Downes who stated that there will later be a more involved planning charrette with community stakeholders invited to give their input.
In other news, the council:
- Heard an invocation from Lt. Colonel Allison Miller with the Alabama Air National Guard. Miller is a local resident and has served in Afghanistan.
- Authorized a resolution delivering a deed to dedicate sewer easements at Patchwork Farms.
- Proclaimed Nov. 29 Small Business Saturday, an event that is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday that was established in 2010. Councilman Steve Ammons encouraged everyone to shop in Vestavia Hills.
- Approved a resolution accepting the dedication of the street Devereaux Circle.
- Read ordinances for the following annexation and rezoning items:
- 3633 Dabney Drive; Lot 37, Altadena Forest Estates, 2nd Sector; William H. Jenkins, owner
- 4624 Old Looney Mill Road; Eric And Meredith Mann, owners
- 1512 Oak Leaf Trail; Lot 12, Gresham Woods; Nicholas Elkhoury, owner
- 3136 Ranger Road, rezoned new addition in New Merkle from Vestavia Hills R-4 to R-9 (planned residential); Patricia Hanna, owner
- 3125 Blue Lake Drive, rezoned from Vestavia Hills R-1 (Residential District) To O-1 (Office District), Lorraine Hollis, owner
The next City Council meeting will be Monday, Dec. 8 at City Hall at 5 p.m. Agenda items include:
- A resolution authorizing a FEMA flood mitigation assistance grant
- A resolution authorizing Schoel Consulting Engineers for consulting services for a FMA floodplain management plan
