In 1994, Robyn Mitchell caught what she was told was toxic strep A. After ending up in a coma and being hospitalized for a month, she began eating organic fruits and vegetables to heal her body. It was this that gave her the idea to start her own business.
“I decided to start an organic co-op to help others heal their bodies and eat fresh, healthy organic, with being as local as possible,” she said. “We offer much more nutritional produce to help everyone feel healthier.”
MannaMarket Organic Food Co-Op launched in 2000 offering organic produce boxes from their farm and other sister farms. They area CSA, community supported agriculture, and a Co-Op Cooperative. She said the secret to good farming is in the soil.
“We have been doing MannaMarket for 20 years, and we grow as much as we can for our customers,” Mitchell said. “Our soil is the most nutritious soil, we have been using the biodynamic, and biointensive methods of growing. We use a no-till method, very good for the soil.”
Their customers, who range in age from 22 to 80, place their orders online a week in advance and then can pick them up at Valley Christian Church in Mountain Brook, Church Street Coffee, 4000 Eagle Point Corporate Center, Healthy Harvey in Pelham and other locations listed on their website. Delivery for locations within 20 minutes of Valley Christian is available for $10.
Mitchell said she is looking forward to helping others live a more healthy lifestyle by eating organic fruits and vegetables.
