Publix on Tuesday confirmed that it has signed a lease to put a grocery store in the Patchwork Farms development off Cahaba River Road and Healthy Way in Vestavia Hills.
The store will be 45,000 square feet and will contain a pharmacy, said Brenda Reid, Publix’s media and community relations manager for Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
Reid said she did not yet know an anticipated opening date for the store.
Publix currently has 25 grocery stores in the Birmingham area and 61 in Alabama, Reid said.
Patchwork Farms is a multi-use development that is supposed to include more than 100,000 square feet of retail space. Plans for the center also include a 120-bed skilled nursing and rehab facility, a 130-unit senior housing project, 270 apartments and 60,000 square feet of office space in three buildings, Daniel Corp. officials have said.
