Vestavia defeats Carver, 56-14

The Vestavia Hills Rebels jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 56-14 victory over Carver High School.

Led by Jordan Johnson's three touchdowns, the Rebels quickly removed any doubt about the game's ultimate outcome.  Johnson continued his outstanding 2013 season with 88 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries.  He added an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

The win marked the 303rd career victory for legendary Rebels Head Coach Buddy Anderson.  In AHSAA competition, Anderson became the all-time winningest coach.  The record for total coaching victories in the state is within reach, as Anderson is now only six wins shy of tying the record 309 victories by former Fayette Coach Waldon Tucker.

The Rebels' air attack was led by quarterback Landon Crowder, who passed for 92 yards and a touchdown.  Crowder added a rushing touchdown in leading the Vestavia Hills offense.

Two of the state's top offenses collide next week when the Rebels face the vaunted Shades Valley Mounties in one of the year's most anticipated matchups.
