Fresh off a successful inaugural season, the Birmingham Hammers announced Thursday that the team has been accepted as the newest member of the National Premier Soccer League.

The Hammers will begin league play in May 2016.

The NPSL is a nationwide league founded in 2002 as the Men’s Premier Soccer League. In the 13 years since its founding, the league has grown to more than 80 teams spanning the entire country.

The Hammers will be competing in the league’s Southeast Conference against clubs in Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Nashville and New Orleans. The Hammers have partnered with Vestavia Hills Soccer Club for the second consecutive season. The team will train and host all league home matches at Vestavia’s state-of-the-art Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.

The Hammers were founded in 2013 with the intent of bringing the world’s most popular sport to Alabama’s largest and fastest-growing city. The 2015 season saw record crowds for each of the six home matches at Vestavia’s Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.

Combined with the record attendance (35,753) at Legion Field for the U.S. Women’s National Team match against Haiti in September and the growing passion for the sport among residents of the Magic City, the Birmingham Hammers expect their first season in the NPSL to be truly memorable.

Season tickets for this historic season will be available soon. For more information please visit BirminghamHammers.com or email info@BirminghamHammers.com.
