The Reset: Football season ends, cross-country teams head to state

FOOTBALL

The Vestavia Hills football team finished the 2018 campaign with a winning record after beating Huffman, 42-18, to conclude the season. The Rebels finished the year with a 6-4 mark.


CROSS-COUNTRY

The Vestavia Hills cross-country teams competed in the Class 7A, Section 3 meet at Hewitt-Trussville last Friday. The Rebels boys finished first overall to edge Mountain Brook, while the girls finished fourth. Both teams performed well enough to qualify for the state meet this Saturday in Moulton.

Ethan Strand won the boys race by nearly seven seconds, crossing the finish line in 16:02.37. Bryce Hutchinson was fifth, coming home in 16:30.36, while John Ingram placed 10th in 16:40.36. Andrew Precise (18th, 17:06.56), Jackson Campbell (29th, 17:40.59), Ryan McConnell (32nd, 17:54.37), Grant Kaiser (33rd, 17:56.75), Benjamin Knighten (37th, 18:05.89), William Morris (40th, 18:10.42) and Alex Baker (41st, 18:16.3) also ran in the race.

Crawford West led the girls team with a 14th-place finish in 20:29.78. Katy Lambert (20th, 20:55.9) Natalie Law (25th, 21:11), Christina Sorochinsky (26th, 21:11.01) and Sarah Comer (30th, 21:23.56) gave the Rebels five racers in the top 30. MaryGriffith Lyle (41st, 22:10.57), Margaret Patton (42nd, 22:11.08), Mary Claire Boughner (53rd, 23:05.97), Eden Roberson (59th, 23:18.1) and Sophia Velezis (60th, 23:18.89) also ran.
