The Reset: Rebels head to spring break after busy week

BASEBALL

The Vestavia Hills baseball team played a pair of games on Wednesday night. In the first game, the Rebels took an 11-1 victory over Spain Park on the back of Colton Lewis’ no-hitter. Lewis surrendered no hits in six innings of work, allowing one run and four walks with 12 strikeouts. Lewis had a big day at the plate as well, driving in three runs. Ben Saway also knocked in three, and Hinton Livings and Cooper Bishop each drove in two.

In the second game, the Rebels needed some late-game heroics to pick up a 4-3 win over Chelsea in nine innings. Vestavia Hills scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and Chris Dugas’ walk-off hit in the ninth lifted the Rebels to victory.

Vestavia Hills grabbed a 6-2 win over Mountain Brook on Thursday, as the Rebels scored five runs over their final two at-bats. Lewis drove in three runs on the game, with Dugas bringing home two. Garrison Cherry went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings.

SOFTBALL

The Vestavia Hills softball team dropped a Class 7A, Area 5 contest to Tuscaloosa County, 9-4, on Tuesday evening. Sarah Cain had three hits in the ball game and drove in a run. Mary Sanders James, Gwynnie Hornibrook and Charity Bibbs also knocked in runs in the loss.

The Rebels fell 9-7 to Moody on Wednesday night. Vestavia Hills jumped out to a 3-0 lead but was unable to hold on to it. The Rebels rallied for four runs in the final two innings, including a pair on Hornibrook’s home run. Merritt Cahoon doubled and drove in a pair of runs as well.

Vestavia Hills rallied to beat Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, 9-8, on Thursday. The Rebels went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cahoon, Bibbs and Hornibrook all homered in the contest.

SOCCER

The Vestavia Hills girls soccer team shut out Auburn, 5-0, on Friday. The Lady Rebels traveled to Sparkman on Saturday and came away with a 4-1 win. The boys team dropped a 5-1 decision to Enterprise on Friday before beating Northview 2-0 on Saturday.

TENNIS

On Wednesday, the Vestavia Hills boys tennis team defeated Hoover, 9-0. Alex Lloyd, Sam Smith, Gray Moore, Clay Castleberry, Robert Hill and Jack Kimbrough won singles matches. Daniel Wheeler teamed with Castleberry to win the No. 3 doubles match.
