Six VHHS seniors announced their commitments to university athletics as part of National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3

Each athlete got to decorate their table with hats, soccer balls or other gear from their college of choice.

“They’re not just getting great athletes, they’re getting great people,” Athletic Director Jeff Segars said of the schools that the students will be attending.

“The work they’ve put in is unparalleled,” girls soccer coach Brigid Littleton agreed.

With parents beside them and a crowd of students filling the room, each student had the chance to thank family, friends and coaches before signing their letters of intent.

“It was awesome, having all the people here, the students and coaches and everybody made it special,” said Nolan Turner, who signed to play football with Clemson University in South Carolina.

Turner said he chose his school based on the “family environment” and football program there. He plans to major in pre-business. Though his new mascot will be a Tiger, Turner said he will “always be a Rebel.”

“I’m just excited about meeting new people and starting new in a new place where I don’t know anybody, and make a lot of new friends on the football team and off the team,” Turner said.
