Rebels run over Rockets 35 - 7

by

The Vestavia Hills High School Rebels continued their undefeated march through the 2013 season with a 35 - 7 blowout win over the previously undefeated Gardendale Rockets.

Once again, the Vestavia running game was unstoppable, with Rebels running backs averaging over six yards per carry.  Jordan Johnson led the way with an 80-yard touchdown sprint.  Johnson totaled 129 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries.  Christian Palmer scored a touchdown and rushed for 72 yards on 12 carries, and Conner Estes added a score and 36 yards on 6 rushes.

Gardendale, which had won its first three games, could hardly get their offense started because the Rebels held the ball for almost 30 minutes of the game.

Vestavia’s stingy defense added two sacks, five tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries to complete the demolition.

Next week, the undefeated Rebels renew their fiercest rivalry, traveling to the Hoover Met to take on the defending 6A champions and number one ranked Hoover Bucs.

Fittingly, this week marks the 25th anniversary of the Vestavia vs. Hoover game that was the Bucs first game at the Met.
