The Vestavia Hills High School volleyball team is trying to reestablish itself as a force to be noticed. The Rebels cleared a hurdle in that process on Monday night, reaching the finals of the Class 7A, Area 5 tournament at Hoover High School.

Vestavia Hills knocked off Tuscaloosa County in the opening round of the tournament, 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19), to secure its spot in the Class 7A Super Regionals, to be held Thursday and Friday in Huntsville.

Regardless of the result against host Hoover, the Rebels had secured a spot.

Against the Bucs, Vestavia struggled and fell in straight sets, 19-25, 18-25, 13-15.

For the evening, Katie Larson had 22 assists, while Manon Burris finished with 18. Caroline Dutton led the way with 17 kills and a pair of blocks, followed by Jenna Hogan's 10 kills and five blocks and Avery Kampwerth's nine kills and three blocks. Hannah Vines registered 24 digs and seven kills.

Vestavia Hills will face Class 7A, Area 7 champ Huntsville on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the South Hall of the Von Braun Center. A win in that match will propel the Rebels to the state tournament at the Birmingham CrossPlex the following week.
