Two first quarter touchdowns were all the Vestavia Hills High School Rebels needed to defeat Huffman and place their coach’s name into the history books.

Vestavia completely dominated all phases of the game in a 30-8 win over the Vikings..  The triumph gives Rebels Head Coach Buddy Anderson 300 career wins.

The performance in all areas of the game was appropriate, celebrating Anderson’s long-time commitment to excellence in all areas of life.

In addition to his historic success on the gridiron, Anderson has served as a longtime sponsor and mentor through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Vestavia.  Generations of students have studied and followed his example of a life that views success, on the field and in life, from an eternal perspective.

His 300th win places Anderson just nine victories away from tying the Alabama high school record for wins, currently held by former Fayette coach Walden Tucker.

The Rebels paid tribute to their coach with an offensive explosion similar to their performances against Homewood and Trussville.  A 27-yard touchdown toss from Landon Crowder to Patrick Haywood started the scoring in the first quarter.  Before period ended, Crowder found Haywood again, this time for a 53-yard scoring pass and a 14-0 lead.

Vestavia scored more points but didn’t need them, thanks to a suffocating defense that only allowed a score in the game's closing moments.

Jordan Johnson paced the Rebels with with 134 yards and touchdown on only 11 carries.  Landon Crowder added to his two touchdown passes with a 5-yard touchdown carry.

Jack Hatchett added a 19-yard field goal to cap the scoring for Vestavia.

Next week, the Rebels host the Gardendale Rockets in a game that could heavily impact the playoff seedings in their region.
