Vestavia Hills has blazed to a 15-1 start under first-year head coach Jamie Harris.

The Rebels start has been so impressive that it has gained them a spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings, with them coming in at No. 22.

"The ranking is cool for our kids," Harris said. "I'm excited for them, but it is honestly nothing that we ever talk about. On our long list of the things that we want to accomplish, that is not one of our goals."

The Rebels have knocked off some strong foes in the early going, including repaying its only loss to Hoover with a 10-2 win over the Bucs last week. They have also defeated the likes of Sparkman, Pelham, Oxford, Huntsville, and Bob Jones.

"Here's the thing with (Class) 7A baseball. You better come everyday to play or you're going to get beat," Harris said. "Every single team we've played has been good enough to beat us."

"The day you don't come to play, you're going to get beat."

Ace pitcher and Alabama signee Sonny Potter is the unquestioned leader on the mound, as Vestavia hopes to continue its strong play before opening up the most important portion of the season. Area 6 play begins with a game against Hewitt-Trussville on April 5.
