Rebels clash with Hoover, come up short

by

The Vestavia Hills Rebels' daunting ground attack came up short, as the Rebels now have just one blemish on an otherwise perfect record.

The entire game was a defensive struggle.  Hoover’s 10-0 halftime lead was cut to three points, as Jordan Johnson’s 13-yard touchdown made it a 10-7 game.  One last score by Hoover provided the game’s final margin.

The Rebels actually outpaced Hoover in time of possession, and forced a turnover by the Bucs superstar Marlon Humphrey on a punt return.

Vestavia’s defense held strong, with two sacks and six tackles for loss.  The Rebels only allowed Hoover’s offense two trips inside the red zone.

If any statistic revealed the difficulties of the night, it was the paucity of third down yardage.  Vestavia averaged 0.1 yards per third down play.

Next week, the Rebels continue their march to the playoffs as they host Woodlawn.
