In a matchup of top five foes, Vestavia Hills did not fare well on Thursday night.

At Spartan Arena, the No. 5 Rebels fell to No. 2 Mountain Brook in straight sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-22), as the Spartans proved too much.

"Mountain Brook is a very fundamentally sound team," Vestavia head coach Mandy Burgess said.

Mountain Brook scored the first eight points of the match and the Rebels were unable to recover.

There was hope in the third set, as Vestavia Hills gained some momentum and took a 20-17 edge. But the Spartans won eight of the final 10 points to finish off the sweep.

On the night, Emma Grace Harris finished with 11 digs, while Mary Quinn Carter had four. Anna Langley led the team with eight kills, followed by Kate Larson's four. Larson and Manon Burris each had seven assists.
