Mountain Brook knocks off Vestavia in area play

Mountain Brook got off to a fast start and held off Vestavia Hills to win 64-53, in the first game of Class 7A, Area 6 play on Tuesday night.

The Rebels struggled from the start, scoring just seven points in the first quarter, but picked it up in the second quarter. Mitchell Langley drained a trifecta of three-pointers in the quarter and Levi Wiggins scored seven in the period. 

Clay Collins led the way for the Spartans with 17 points. Ben McCool chipped in 11 and Jack Kline scored ten. 

Mountain Brook ran off 41 points in the first half, making it tough for Vestavia to overcome. Mac Smith scored eight of his 12 in the second half, as he tried to bring his team back. Colby Milner scored nine.

Both teams remain in Class 7A, Area 6 play Friday night. Mountain Brook travels to rival Spain Park in a game televised by MY 68. Vestavia plays at Hewitt-Trussville. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
