Vestavia Hills High School has named Mandy Burgess the volleyball head coach, a position she held previously from 2000 through 2012.

During her previous tenure, Burgess led the program to a state championship appearance, five Final Fours, eight area championships, and the 2003 regional championship.

In 2012, she was honored as the Alabama Coach of the Year by the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

"I'm humbled and honored to work with the Vestavia Hills volleyball program again and to return to the program where I started coaching," Burgess said in a statement. "I love this school system and love working with our young people. It's so rewarding to see a team set goals, put in the work to achieve them, and grow to become better student-athletes and better people."

According to the statement, Burgess called the job "an amazing opportunity" and is looking forward to next season.

"We've got a great group returning and we have a lot of strong, confident athletes in our school that we look forward to seeing in tryouts," she said. "We're going to work hard in our preparations this summer and spend a lot of time developing a team culture and taking ownership in what we do. I expect us to be one of the top volleyball programs in the state."
