A Vestavia Hills Youth Football team is hoping to bring the community together for an evening of fun and raising funds at their second annual "Blue Out to Blow Out T1D."

The second grade Lil' Rebels team, which is hosting the event, is currently ranked first in their league, and will face Pelham Tuesday night.

The group will have information about how to support Alabama's JDRF chapter, which is part of the national organization that works to fund research into a cure for type-1 diabetes.

"Without the treatments and advances for Type-1 diabetics, our quarterback, Caden James [Mitchell], would never have the opportunity or medical equipment to participate in youth sports, much less excel in the truly competitive environment of JSYFL football," coach Tate Bowden said.

Mitchell has a real-time glucose monitor and insulin pump attached to his leg and hip at all times, but hasn't let that stop him from playing the game he loves.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex. Guests are encouraged to show their support by wearing blue, and glow sticks and bracelets will be available  for free.
