The Vestavia Hills girls soccer team got on the board late in the first half and tacked on in the second half to defeat Hoover, 3-0, in the first round of the AHSAA Class 7A playoffs on Tuesday afternoon.

In the 39th minute of the first half, Caroline Causey made the first dent on the scoreboard, putting the Lady Rebels ahead just before the halftime break with a goal.

The No. 2 team in the state, Vestavia Hills did not sit on the one-goal lead, but opened it up in the second half and rolled to the win.

Not even a minute into the second half, Causey fed Faith Hauberg for another goal. Taylor Korn would add the final goal of the game on an assist from Sophia Kamburis in the eighth minute.

The Lady Rebels outshot the Lady Bucs 16-6 for the game, and goalkeeper Lauren Roussell made three saves on the night.

On the boys side, Vestavia Hills also knocked off Hoover, 2-1.

Both Vestavia teams will host the reigning state champion boys and girls Oak Mountain teams on Saturday. The girls face off at 11 a.m., while the boys play at 2 p.m.
