The new year is here, and here's a quick look back at the last few weeks of Vestavia Hills High School sports.

BASKETBALL

The Vestavia Hills girls basketball team has yet to falter, capping off 2022 with a 19-0 record. On Dec. 16, the Lady Rebels traveled south and beat Foley on the road. The following week, they beat Gulfport (Mississippi), Spanish Fort and Pine Forest (Florida) to win the Beach Bash. Last week, the Lady Rebels knocked off Helena, Fairhope and Northridge as part of the Alabaster City Classic.

The Vestavia boys finished off the year by winning 11 in a row. The Rebels defeated Austin before winning the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic in Kentucky. To do so, they beat Scott County 91-56, beat Lincoln County 71-68 in overtime, then defeated West Jessamine 93-88 in double overtime. At Homewood’s Metro Tournament last week, the Rebels beat Cullman, Clay-Chalkville and Homewood to claim the title.

WRESTLING

Over the last few weeks, the Vestavia Hills wrestling team has finished ninth in the Homewood Holiday Scramble, finished 26th in the Knockout Christmas Classic in Florida, placed 17th in the Trey Culotta Invitational in Louisiana and placed second in the Heart of Dixie Classic hosted at Vestavia Hills.
