Carl Nesbitt sets state record at Indoor State Meet

Carl Nesbitt set a Class 7A state meet record in the high jump at the Indoor State Track and Field Meet on Feb. 5-6 at the Birmingham CrossPlex, as Vestavia Hills High School boys and girls teams competed in the final event of the winter sport's season.

Nesbitt set the record with a soaring leap of 2.03 meters (6-8).

Other Rebel standouts include James Henry Barrett winning the boys pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.72 meters (15-6). Whitt Harrelson placed third in the same event to reach the podium.

Walter Thomas sealed a runner-up finish in the boys shot put with a heave of 16.00 meters (52-6).

Katherine Ratliff placed sixth in the girls pole vault, clearing the bar at 2.89 meters (9-6). She also finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.90 meters (16-1). Jazmin Norris was sixth in the shot put with a heave of 9.98 meters (32-9).

Alec Beers placed eighth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:57.03.

Timira Taylor, Mallory Moore, Taylor Trotman, Sasha Allison, Mary Ashford Hyde, Margaret James Stephens, Abbey Romp, and James Sweeney all placed in individual portions of the meet.

The boys team placed seventh overall in Class 7A, and the girls team finished 14th.
