The Lady Rebels fought tooth and nail to earn a spot in the North Central Regional.

They finished second in the Class 7A, Area 6 Tournament, sealing their spot with a dramatic 12-11 win over Hewitt-Trussville in the first of three games Saturday. Both teams came into the day with a loss in the tournament, making it a sudden death contest for each team's season.

Vestavia Hills would go on to notch a win over Spain Park in the next game, before finally running out of steam in the third game.

The All-Tournament team was announced in full on Monday, with four Lady Rebels named to the squad. Shortstop Merritt Cahoon, third baseman RaeAnn King, Audrey Meloun, and centerfielder Taylor Coe received honors for their outstanding play over the weekend.

As the top two finishers in the tournament, Spain Park and Vestavia Hills will represent Area 6 in the North Central Regional, to take place at Tuscaloosa's Sokol Park on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Lady Rebels will take on Oak Mountain at 4:30 p.m. Spain Park and Hoover also play at the same time. The four teams play again at 7:30 p.m., with the winners facing each other and the losers playing each other.

The team that wins both games on Friday will advance to the state tournament. The two teams that go 1-1 will face off Saturday at 10:30 in a crucial game. The victor will advance, and the other will see its season end.
