Vestavia Hills Elementary West will host its 11th annual Bids & Bites Silent and Live Auction fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 5. The auction is set to begin at 6 p.m. in the former Pier One location at Park South Shopping Plaza.

Like at every auction, Bids & Bites will have big-ticket items up for bidding. This year, among the array of locally donated goods and gift certificates, there will also be three-night stay at the Atlantis Casino Resort, a mountain cabin retreat, a Big Green Egg grill, orthodontic gift certificates and Lifetime Fitness memberships.

However, for the parents of VHEW, some of the most coveted auction items are invaluable. A “first in carpool line” yearlong pass and special access to meet your teacher before the first day of school are some of the most fought over items.

In addition to the donated auction items, traditional themed baskets put together by VHEW classes will be available as part of the silent auction.

The fundraiser is put on by the PTO every year as a way to bring the community together and raise money for technology, equipment and other educational equipment.

Auction Co-chair Evan Wright has been working on the event for the past couple years and said she is excited to see the event grow this year. Last year more than 300 people turned out, raising $25,000 for the school.

“I’m most excited to see all the families and friends and community that show up and get to have a great night out and enjoy themselves,” she said. “It is really rewarding after all the months of planning and all the hard work.”

Admission to Bids & Bites is free and includes complimentary food catered by Chris Z’s as well as beer and wine. Sam Shober of the band Meteorite will be performing live at this adult only event.
