The National School Public Relations Association has named Vestavia Hills City Schools Superintendent Sheila Phillips as a Superintendent to Watch.

The “Superintendents to Watch” program is designed to recognize superintendents who have held the position for less than five years and use communication technology in innovative and effective ways, according to a press release.

“These superintendents are recognized for using dynamic, fast-paced leadership with strong communication at its core,” said a press release. “They engage and inform their school communities with new communication technology tools combined with tried-and-true techniques.”

Phillips also received the ALSPRA 2016 Outstanding Leadership in School/Community Relations award and the 2016 Excellence in Writing award for the Vestavia City Schools’ Op Ed: A Rebel Strives for Excellence.
