The following is a press release from Vestavia Hills City Schools Superintendent Todd Freeman regarding a situation at Vestavia Hills High School earlier today:

"Dear VHHS family,

As you know, the Vestavia Hills High School Main Campus put a secure perimeter in place this morning for approximately 30 minutes. During a secure perimeter situation, classes and activities continue as scheduled, but no one may enter or exit the campus. The secure perimeter was lifted at approximately 9:18 a.m. this morning.

The secure perimeter was in response to statements made by a student toward another student which constituted a threat. The school followed standard security protocols during this matter. No arrests of students were made, no weapons were discovered on campus, and at no time was the safety of the students or faculty compromised. The Vestavia Hills Police Department has also issued a statement regarding this matter, which you may view here.

The names of the involved students are being withheld per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Disciplinary action will be determined in accordance with the Board of Education’s policies and Code of Conduct.

We rely on the support of students, staff, and families to report anything that represents a threat to school safety. If you see something of concern, please contact a school administrator or school resource officer, or use the VHCS Tip Line: by phone/text at (205) 927-5628, online at www.vhcs.us/tipline, or in the Vestavia Hills City Schools Mobile App."
