Sixth-grade science teacher Ashley Perry was honored this week by the state Department of Education. The Pizitz Middle teacher was named to the initial cohort of the Network for Alabama Teaching Fellows.

She will serve on the cohort for two years.

"I'm honored for the opportunity to be in this network with professionals of this caliber," Perry said in a press release from Vestavia Hills City Schools. "I hope this provides an opportunity for teachers to make their voices heard."

The NATF connects Alabama classrooms with education policy makers to share good education ideas from across the state. Perry was one of 22 teachers chosen for the cohort. This is her fifth year in the VHCS system, but her first at Pizitz.
