Parents of students at Liberty Park Middle School will have two opportunities in the coming days to discuss academic alignment at the school.

Superintendent Sheila Phillips will meet with parents and community members to discuss the history of academic alignment initiatives at LPMS, as well as what is going on currently. The meeting will also address possible steps going forward for future alignment programs.

Academic alignment is the effort to ensure that students at different city schools are receiving comparable instruction and resources, similar to the way the state recently created the ENVISION academic assessment task force, to encourage continuity across schools and testing.

With two middle schools funneling into one high school, some parents have been vocal on social media about wanting assurance that students at LPMS students receive the same education as those who attend Pizitz Middle School.

The meetings will take place in the media center of LPMS, the first at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20, and the second at noon on Sept. 22.
