Students leave their legacy with artwork

The Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights Legacy Wall is a collection of students’ artwork printed on ceramic tiles. The Legacy Wall is beautifully displayed inside the main entrance to the school. Before the many renovations began over the summer at Cahaba Heights, teachers and parents saw an opportunity to install a permanent art collection that can continue to grow.

“This is a great way for students to have a permanent piece of art that is part of our school and will remain on display year after year. With many new walls that are connecting the gym and office building, there is plenty of room for this display to grow year after year,” said former PTO president Christa Seal.

This became a new tradition for VHECH last May. By visiting the web gallery on artsonia.com and choosing from one of the many projects completed during the school year, kindergarten through fifth-grade students and their parents were able to leave their legacy by purchasing a tile as a permanent part of this display. This was also a way for the PTO to raise funds for special projects at the school such as playground renovation. The tiles were arranged and installed courtesy of ELM Construction, one of the school’s Partners In Education sponsors.

The school is pleased with the amount of participation from the first year and looks forward to watching this beautiful tile display grow throughout the years. In late spring, the school will send out information on how students can be a part of the second installment of the VHECH Legacy Wall.
