Board of Education hires new assistant superintendent

The Vestavia Hills Board of Education approved the hiring of Meredith Hanson as the district’s new assistant superintendent on July 7.

Hanson, who is currently Executive Director of Human Resources at Auburn City Schools, previously served from 2006 to 2012 as assistant principal at Vestavia Hills Elementary Central. During that time, she assisted in oversight of the school’s 680 students and the hiring of more than 80 school staff members. She holds an Educational Specialist degree from Samford University.

Hanson will replace Sheila Phillips, who last month was named as the district’s new superintendent.

“Meredith’s wealth of knowledge gained from her experience here and outside of our district, coupled with her confident personality, made her the ideal candidate for this position,” Phillips said.

“I’m extremely humbled by this opportunity and very excited about what I know Mrs. Phillips has in mind for Vestavia Hills,” Hanson said. “I’m looking forward to coming back and working for the kids, because they’re great students.”
