Board approves several items in brief meeting

At a brief meeting on Monday, Aug. 27, the Vestavia City Schools Board of Education approved several consent items, as well as two budget items.

The board first heard the presentation of the proposed budget for the next fiscal year. This was the second time the budget was presented, following the first budget meeting on Aug. 13.

The board approved proposed textbook and curriculum resources, as well as a job description for the transportation coordinator and automotive mechanic, who will oversee the school’s fleet of vehicles, as well as performing maintenance work on the vehicles.

VHHS:

Theatre Competition, Troy: Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, 2018. Cost: $150 per student.

Just Singin' Choir: UA Honor Choir, Tuscaloosa: Oct. 14-15, 2018. Cost: $75 per student.

Model U.N.-Model U.N. Conference, Nashville: Nov. 2 to 4, 2018 and Tuscaloosa: Feb. 15-17, 2019. Cost: $200 to $300 per student.

Pizitz:

Sixth Grade Choir-Unit of Country Music-Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry, Nashville: Nov. 2, 2018. Cost: $150 per student.

Track and Field-End of Year Celebration-Six Flags, Atlanta: May 11, 2019. Cost: $50 per student.

Cahaba Heights:

Fifth Grade-Sea Lab-Dauphin Island and Fort Gaines: Sept. 26-28, 2018. Cost: $210 per student.

Disposal of Property:

VHHS, Liberty Park Elementary, Central and Pizitz all had various technological items to dispose of.

West: 22 science books, one set of teacher's editions science books.
